15 years married today. Life is wild — you never really know where it will take you or who will be by your side. Somehow I chose to promise my life to one person, and it hasn’t always been easy. This past year tested us like never before; it’s been the hardest stretch of our marriage. But we made it. We finished another year together, and that feels incredible.

Marriage isn’t just the highlight reels, though highlight reels are important. Being a partner and a best friend means showing up on the messy days, too (the days where there are no photographs taken)— the days of grief, of exhaustion, of mental collapse — and still moving forward. It means choosing love when it’s hard, being loyal to your family, apologizing first, forgiving quickly, and letting things go. It’s pouring out the last of your patience and finding ways to refill each other’s tanks. Fighting for love and for each other — that’s the work, and it’s the most important thing I know.

Focusing on your accomplishments, your good times, your laughs..that's when the highlight reels are vital. We can get so swept up in our darkness that we feel like it's always going to be dark because it always has been dark. Photographs have meant so much to me my whole life. It's proof that when you're sad...at one point you were happy...and you can get back to that point. Keep loving hard, people! With everything you have. Love the people you have...especially the ones that stick closer than family...praise them. Feeling extra sentimental today ♥️

Jesse & Kayo in Budapest, forever my buds.

I've been friends with Jesse since I moved to Seattle in 2003, we were an odd pairing of homies....but we had both just moved into town from different states...and we didn't have a lot of options lol. We were neighbors on capitol hill Seattle, for years...we have so many memories from dance parties, breakups, sledding down Denny hill on snow days and many coffee chats. We were, in one form or another...each other's wing-people when we were dating the people we married....way before we knew we'd marry them. My husband and I were just friends when I asked him to dance with me at a wedding so I could spy on Jesse's first dance with Kayo...I had to remember the moment and the song for Jesse ...just in case I may be helping him out with his proposal to this girl one day. Mike and I got married 3 or so months before Jesse & Kayo...but we didn't make it into the same year unfortunately. We were in 2010 and they were in 2011. Either way, Jesse managed to marry outside of his league 😜 with his incredible wife Kayo, and I adore them as a couple. Since then they've moved to Budapest...and just this year I finally got over there to visit them. I had such a blast...Buda is amazing. More than anything, it was so wonderful to be with my very special friends. My brother from another mother 🥹 love love love
